Chaos, Closing & Catalog: Your Soft Landing Strategy for the End of a Busy Season
We are still in Maycember, but now it is the championship round: the field days, the final reports, the let’s-circle-back-before-summer emails, the last-minute everything. Consider this a companion guide to winding it all down, not more advice on how to juggle it, but a soft landing strategy for the last stretch of the season. It comes down to three Cs: Chaos, Closing, and Catalog.
Chaos
Let’s not pretend it is not chaotic. You are probably still checking off boxes, sending the Venmo for the group gift, or tracking down a missing library book. Sometimes just naming the chaos helps you feel a bit more in control. This is not the time to strive for perfection; it is the time to opt for done-ish and move on. Here is your mantra: I cannot do it all, but I can do the next right thing. And sometimes the next right thing is ordering takeout, setting an auto-reply on that email, or asking me to handle the thing that has been on your list for weeks.
Closing
Here is the quieter part nobody mentions: things are ending. School years, seasons of structure, long-running projects. Even if you are not crying at a graduation, these transitions hold weight. You have been showing up again and again, at your desk, your kitchen counter, your kid’s classroom, your client’s meeting. So take a moment to acknowledge that. Light a candle, pour yourself a glass of sparkling water or something a little more bubbly. You are making it through a wild season, and that deserves recognition. Endings do not have to be dramatic to be meaningful. They just need to be acknowledged.
Catalog
When the chaos dies down, you are left with stuff: photos, paperwork, art projects, notebooks, receipts, sticky notes of genius ideas. Now is the time to catalog. Not everything needs to be saved, but some of it might. Ask yourself what is worth keeping and what represents growth or meaning. That applies to both physical things and to the habits, routines, or boundaries you want to carry forward. I can help you create systems to keep the good stuff, whether that means memory boxes, storage bins, or simply not losing that brilliant sticky note.
Close Out the Season With Grace
Maycember is almost over and you are almost there. Whether you are running a household, a business, a team, or all three, this month asks a lot of you. But you do not have to carry it all alone. Let’s close out the season with grace, keep only what matters, and say goodbye to the rest with zero guilt. If you need help sorting the stuff, literal or mental, I am right here. Errands, organizing, resets, or simply making the to-do list feel less lonely, that is what I do.
